Surveying is the science and art of using applied mathematics to determine
the area of any portion of the earth's surface, the length and direction of
the bounding lines, and the elevation contours of the surface. GeoMetrics provides
traditional survey services to the community. Our experienced and highly
trained staff completes Boundary Surveys, Topographic and Hydrographic
Surveys, Hazardous Waste and Environmental Surveys, and Route and
Construction Surveys.

BOUNDARY SURVEYS

GeoMetrics GPS, Inc.
performs legal boundary surveys for both large and small acreage. Our staff
is experienced in both Public Lands (PLSS) and Colonial (metes and bounds)
resurveys. We use technology as a tool to assist in the recovery of
evidence for boundary location. Our staff is licensed to perform boundary
surveys in Virginia, Ohio,
Pennsylvania, Alabama,
Mississippi, Louisiana,
and Texas.

TOPOGRAPHIC / HYDROGRAPHIC SURVEYS
GeoMetrics performs
topographic surveys using both GPS and conventional terrestrial total
stations. All features and elevations are collected digitally in the field.
The topographic maps are produced in Autocad Release 14 (DWG) and Microstation 95 (DGN) formats.
GeoMetrics performs
hydrographic surveys using GPS as a primary positioning system. The GPS is
coupled with a digital fathometer to collect the depth of the water. The
depth is collected each second in a regular pattern and stored with a GPS
position and time tag. The depths are corrected for the draft of the boat,
tidal variation, river stage, and speed of sound in water. The depths are
subtracted from the surface elevation to produce elevations on the bott om
of the survey area. The elevations are then used to produce a bathymetric
contour map.
HAZARDOUS WASTE / ENVIRONMENTAL SURVEYS
We have surveyed radiation, explosive ordnances, and chemical
contamination. Our GPS equipment interfaces with a variety of sensory
instrumentation to enable cost effective data capture. All our field
personnel have completed the 40 hour Hazardous Waste Training as per OSHA
29CFR1910.120. Our experience has been gained on projects throughout the United
States.
Radiation
Surveys: Radiation Gamma Walkover Surveys (GWS) are performed to
measure the quantity of radionucliides present in
an area of concern (AOC). The long term exposure to concentrations of these
particles is a health hazard. GeoMetrics
uses a ratemeter/scaler with various detectors to
measure both high energy and low energy particles. All of the data is
collected digitally and merged with the GPS position. The data is processed
using our proprietary software and spatially analyzed in a Geographic
Information System (GIS). Past projects include EPA Superfund sites and
DOE/COE FUSRAP sites.
Explosive Ordnance:
GeoMetrics GPS, Inc. performed a number of
surveys in support of the detection and removal of explosive
ordnance. Our trained hazardous waste surveyors work closely with Explosive
Ordnance Demolition (EOD) technicians. Our GPS equipment interfaces with a
variety of sensors including magnetometers such as the EM-61, ground
penetrating radar, fathometers, and side scan sonars.
We work closely with the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) on many projects.
Past projects include surveying the minefields of
Kuwait after
the 1991 Gulf War, and surveys at locations such as Fort
Ritchie, Aberdeen Proving Ground,
San Dia National Laboratory, Ogala Sioux
Bombing Range,
and Fort Pierce.
Environmental Site
Characterization/Location Surveys: GeoMetrics
uses GPS and conventional survey technology to
locate monitoring wells, soil bores, test pits and grid locations at other
hazardous waste or environmentally concerned sites. Past projects include Bainbridge
Naval Training
Center, Griffis
AFB, Beltsville Agricultural
Research Center,
and Crab Orchard National Wildlife Refuge.
ROUTE / CONSTRUCTION SURVEYS
GeoMetrics
GPS, Inc. uses its expertise with GPS technology to provide real time kinematic (RTK) stakeout for construction stakeout,
mining and stockpile inventories, and location surveys. Our dual frequency GPS
equipment is capable of centimeter level accuracy in real time. The system
consists of a GPS base station and a GPS rover connected via a high power
radio modem. RTK stakeout is very cost effective as it is unaffected by
weather and because an unlimited number of GPS rover units can operate from
the same GPS base.
